Schools transactions update 4 November 2020
Applications for next year's P1 and S1 intake are now open. Read to find out more, plus an update on FSM holiday payments and EMA.
Pupils starting P1 and S1 in August 2021
We have agreed the timetable and procedures for children starting P1 and S1 in August 2021. A summary is provided here, but please visit the Primary and Secondary 1 Orb page for full details.
P1 registration – online form LIVE!
Due to the ongoing restrictions parents will register for P1 using a new online registration form. This went live just before 12pm on 4 November and there are already submissions coming in. Thanks to those of you have helped with testing the form prior to going live.
There are several changes to the registration process and how you record them on SEEMiS – please take time to read the new P1 registrations phase 1 instructions.
We have issued letters about the new procedures to all parents of N5 pupils living in the City of Edinburgh area, if they attend a City nursery or Early Years setting.
P7 high school allocations
P7 pupils have been allocated places in their catchment high schools and you can view these now in Admissions & Leavers > Allocations > Provisional Allocations Report
- Primary schools - change Report Type to ‘Allocated From Report’
- Secondary schools - change this to 'Allocated To Report'
- click 'Get report Data'. This will generate a list of pupils.
Under the heading Allocation Type most children are ‘Allocated by Authority’ – i.e. allocated their catchment schools as we haven’t granted any placing requests yet. Children moving from Taobh na Pàirce to James Gillespie’s are marked ‘Accepted by Parent’, as are children attending the City of Edinburgh Music School allocated to Broughton High.
Later this week we will be sending letters to the parents about the transfer to high school.
Placing requests
Placing requests are now open.
PDF versions of this and our other online forms are available to download from this page and print for parents if required.
Free school meals holiday payments
Parents who have an income-based entitlement to free school meals, milk and clothing grants were paid £13.50 per child, covering the October mid-term break.
Over 500 parents who received an automatic award have not yet provided payment details, so we have written to these parents to request these.
Please remember only families qualifying for an income-based free school meals award are eligible for these payments, i.e. those who are approved FSM on SEEMiS. P1-P3 pupils are not automatically paid unless the parent has applied to us to receive the clothing grant.
Parents can still apply, and if they do so before 30 November, they will receive the October holiday payment.
Education maintenance allowances
The team continue to work hard to clear the backlog of applications.
The first payment for awarded students was made successfully last Friday. We will send you the next group of awarded students week beginning 9 November for confirmation. This has worked well so far but we had some questions about the process which we’ll confirm here:
- the awards spreadsheet does not replace the fortnightly confirmation of attendance on SEEMiS – the purpose of this is to replace the part 3 signature on the learning agreement.
- The first spreadsheet included all students awarded SO FAR – there will be many more as and when the applications are dealt with.
We appreciate students are having to wait a long time before they hear from us, and we are receiving a large volume of enquiries and duplicate applications. Unfortunately, many require further information which delays the process further. We’d be grateful if you could pass on the message to pupils that we are doing all we can to get through these. All applications received up to 30 September will be backdated so they will not lose out.
Next update
We’ll send a further update before the end of November once the P1 registrations have been entered on SEEMiS.
