Schools transactions update 23 November 2022

Read to find out about FSM Christmas payments, plus an update on EMA applications and P1/S1 school places.

Free school meals Christmas payments

The Christmas holiday payment will be £287.50 per child, made up of:

  • £27.50 Free School Meals holiday payment
  • £260 Scottish Child Bridging Payment

Payments will be made into bank accounts on 5 December 2022, whilst Paypoint payments will be made between 5  and 9 December 2022.

This is the final bridging payment – these have been replaced by the Scottish Child Payment. See below for details.

Payments are made if the child currently receives income-based free school meals – so they do not need to apply for it. We use the same details we used to pay their clothing grant.

Our web page has been updated with this information.

Scottish Child Payment

On 14 November applications for the Scottish Child Payment opened. Parents of children ages 6 to 15 can apply for the Scottish Child Payment.

Parents can apply by visiting this website:

www.mygov.scot/scottish-child-payment/how-to-apply

Please note these applications are processed by Social Security Scotland and local authorities are not involved in the assessment or payment process. Please do not refer parents to Transactions as we will be unable to answer them.

Teacher’s strike – 24 November 2022

Those who are eligible for free school meals will take home Thursday’s lunch on Wednesday with instructions for keeping it fresh until used.

No Free School meals payments will be made for the strike day.

Education Maintenance Allowances

The team continue to work hard to process applications as quickly as possible, and we now have extra resource in place to assist with this.

We are receiving several enquiries asking for progress on applications, as well as duplicate application forms. This is slowing the process. We have dealt with applications up to mid-August and we ask pupils to bear with us as - we will contact them if we need further information. Otherwise, they will receive an email notification advising the outcome of the application.

P1 and S1 placements

P1 registration

Since P1 registrations opened on 31 October, we have received 4347 applications. Parents were asked to apply before 18 November. Please ensure these are entered on SEEMiS by Friday 25 November.

Registrations will still come in between now and the Christmas holidays and should be entered on SEEMiS as they come in.

We’ll send an abbreviated list to all schools detailing the reference number, date of submission, initials of the child, and the school applied for. Please check the submissions for your school and get in touch if you haven’t received any of them. We can arrange to re-send them.

Remember to check you have all the required documentation, and if not, follow this up with the parents directly.

To udpate proofs on a registration, just search for the child name in the Intake Registration Details screen, then tick the new proof received and click on 'Update Proofs'.

To update the RC Requirement status on a registration, just search for the child name in the Intake Registration Details screen, select the correct status received and click on 'Update Proofs'.

S1 allocations

We check a weekly report for P7 pupils detailing any new starts or changes, i.e. new addresses.  You don't need to tell us about these separately as we'll pick them up automatically.  In most cases we'll check against Council Tax records to confirm the address and then change the allocated school. However, we may contact you if we need some more information.

We will work through these over the next few weeks and send a new letter to the parents to confirm the allocated high school.
