In past years we’ve seen parents start to apply for their children starting P1 in August. It is too early to apply as applications do not open for the next session until June. If you do provide info to the parents of your registered children, please advise not to apply yet.

The deadline for P1 registrations was 24 December, however the registration form will remain open for late registrations and placing requests. This means you may have some new enrolments to verify and register.

The Intake working group will be meeting on 17 and 18 January to decide on the intake limits for each school, so it is important we have as many enrolments completed as possible so we can report accurate figures.

Registrations not verified or progressed to ‘registered’

If you have not yet verified or registered enrolments because there is an issue, i.e., address proofs not sufficient or not provided yet, please contact the parents again to request this. Any child enrolment not progressed to ‘registered’ will not be included in the registration figures we report to the intakes working group.

Remember you don’t need to request proof of address if the parent declared they are liable for Council Tax. Similarly, a birth certificate is no longer required if the child attends a CEC nursery setting (i.e. you can match them to an existing nursery record).

As advised in the previous post, if you find you get stuck and unable to progress a registration, we suggest you contact us to ‘reset’ the enrolment to ‘pending’ and then you can try again.

Registrations unable to be matched

Some schools have queried ‘unmatched’ registrations. If children are not attending a CEC nursery setting, i.e. not attending any nursery or attends a nursery outside Edinburgh, then these will not be matched as we don’t hold a record.

In addition, some children may have started nursery AFTER the nursery data was uploaded to the P1 enrolment system, they too will be unmatched.

Admission to Roman Catholic schools

Priority will be given to children baptised in the Roman Catholic faith.  

As advised in previous posts, RC schools need to establish if the children are baptised or not.  Please review any you are waiting for and if necessary, send a follow up request, otherwise they will  be treated as not baptised and will be subject to the usual priority order.

We also need you to check that for any RC certificate documents uploaded, only those which are proof of baptism are APPROVED – anything else must be REJECTED otherwise they will be counted with the baptised children.

Pupils with no enrolment form

Every year there are many children who are never registered for P1 but still require a place in P1. Due to the rising rolls, it is important we get as many children registered as possible as we are less likely to be able to accommodate these pupils later after we have allocated all available places.

In these cases when a parent has not completed an enrolment form, we will simply carry out an address check against Council Tax / Benefits records.  We will be registering these children over the coming weeks so you may notice additional children appearing on your registration details report.

Template emails - reminder

If you are sending a template email, please remember to insert the school admin email address and update the footer with the school name, address and contact number.

P7 address changes up to the end of term in December 2023 have been actioned, and letters will be issued shortly to the parents confirming the allocated place. We’ve also allocated places to children who enrolled into P7 from outside Edinburgh between November and December 2023.

There are some queries on certain address changes we’ve been unable to confirm, and we may contact you for information in these cases, to enable us to progress and confirm the correct high school.
