Schools transactions update 29 June 2022
Read to find out about application arrangements for free school meals, clothing grants and education maintenance allowances. Plus we have an update on the ongoing P1/S1 placements starting August 2022.
P1 and S1 intake update
We continue to receive late applications, including families moving into the area, late placing requests, or some parents simply changing their mind!
We're trying to answer as many as we can before the end of term, but as always there will be changes throughout the holiday period, so please be aware to check the admin mailbox for any changes when you return.
There are still some appeals to be heard and these will take place over the summer.
After the holidays we will pass you the waiting lists (if one exists) and handover the process to you.
Free school meals, milk and clothing grants
Summer holiday payment
The summer holiday payment was paid into bank accounts on 27 June. This is £210 per child, made up of a £80 holiday payment and a £130 bridging payment. It was paid to parents of all children currently in receipt of income-based FSM.
Applications for 2022-23
We are again planning to automatically award free school meals to children based on information held on parents' benefit claims. We had hoped to have this done before the end of session, however there have been some technical issues which have prevented that. However we are hopeful it will be carried out soon and we will write to parents if they qualify.
If we already held their bank details, we paid their clothing grant using the existing details.
We will open applications for the 2022-23 session next week.
Children in P1-P5 receive 'universal' entitlement to free school meals, but this does not extend to holiday and briding payments, free milk or clothing grants. Therefore parents must apply for this.
We've received a number of enquiries about Parentpay charging parents when they order a meal for the first week of term - this should resolve itself once we load FSM entitlement to SEEMiS over the holidays.
Education Maintenance Allowance
EMA applications for 2022-23 opened today. We have also sent out an information letter to all within the eligible age range.
We will confirm the arrangements for payment authorisation after the holidays, but we expect these to be largely similar to this session.
Next update
We’ll post another update when the new session begins to handover the P1 and S1 process, and give you an update on FSM and EMA applications.
